WeMaple Advances Alberta Film and Television Tax Credit Application for WeMaple Special Presentation Part I

CALGARY, Alberta – April 16, 2026 – WeMaple confirmed that principal photography commenced on December 15, 2025 for WeMaple Special Presentation Part I, a documentary production currently advancing through Alberta’s Film and Television Tax Credit (FTTC) Program under the province’s Jobs, Economy, Trade and Immigration (JET) division.

The production is eligible under Alberta’s FTTC Program, which offers qualifying productions a tax credit of up to 30 percent of eligible Alberta costs. WeMaple Special Presentation Part I has been structured around a confirmed financing model combining equity investment, a production loan facility, pre-production expenditures, and a growing roster of Brand Partnership Agreements — with confirmed financing now surpassing the program’s 50 percent threshold requirement.

The production is fully supported by a distribution agreement with Telus, executed in the name of the applicant company, and is being produced in accordance with the Canadian Audio-Visual Certification Office (CAVCO) documentary genre criteria. WeMaple has also engaged a distribution consultant to pursue expanded digital, festival, and international distribution opportunities upon completion.

Brand Partner LOI’s confirmed for WeMaple Special Presentation Part I include Fusion Collegiate, Source Geothermal, Geothermal Rising, KD Professional, and AutoTrust Stettler — each featured as editorial integrations within the documentary’s exploration of Alberta’s energy innovation landscape. These custom features are designed as subject-matter contributions to the film’s narrative arc, and do not alter editorial control or authorship.

“Many more Brand Partners coming,” states WeMaple Executive Producer Matt Keay, “a half a million dollar budget is really nothing in the film business. We are proving out this model with how public and private sector dollars come together — then we will continue to scale it.  With 17 completed documentary film projects and a 100% funding and completion record, we are confident in our ability to deliver this production to the standard Albertans and our partners expect.”

WeMaple Special Presentation Part I builds on the foundation of the WeMaple series — previously supported through the Alberta Media Fund’s Alberta Made Production Grant — and represents an evolution of the model toward larger-scale, internationally distributed documentary storytelling at the intersection of labour, clean energy, and AI infrastructure.
