Alberta Emerges as AI Data Centre Hub with $100B Investment Plan

Alberta is emerging as a top destination for AI data centres, with the provincial government targeting $100 billion in investments over the next five years. Cities like Fort McMurray, Grande Prairie, Pincher Creek, and Fox Creek are attracting developers due to affordable energy, strategic locations, and cooler climates that reduce cooling costs.

Key projects include Prairie Creek Business Park (PCBP) in Fort McMurray, which offers 400 acres of land, high-speed fibre optics, and reliable power. Companies like Gryphon Digital Mining and O’Leary Ventures are leading the charge, with Gryphon building an AI data centre in Pincher Creek and O’Leary Ventures planning a data centre industrial park in Grande Prairie.

Alberta’s Technology Minister Nate Glubish emphasized the economic benefits, forecasting thousands of new tech jobs and increased natural gas demand. However, balancing this growth with environmental sustainability remains a key challenge.

As Alberta advances in AI infrastructure, WeMaple, a film production company, is eager to document the province’s rise as a leader in innovation.
